Club or Country? Empty Club or Country?

Post by Haydock Fri Oct 09, 2009 12:51 am

I see that Sweden have declared Elmander fit to play for them this week. If he really is fully fit then fair enough - but we need the strongest squad possible in our forthcoming prem games.

Same goes for Sam Ricketts. He's in the treatment room this week, but Wales say that they may play him on Wednesday.

Within the greater scheme of things I would always say that players should be proud to represent their country and I applaud them for that. However, it's the Club that has them under contract and pays their wages - what do you think?

I think you're right, their loyalty should be with the club although I can see why some players will always put their country first, Its something to do with the kudos that comes with playing international football. ('afro')

perhaps megson doesnt fancy playing him at the moment anyway, given the chance he would play but megson is saying he is not fully fit so is not picking him.
it would be good to watch him play 90 mins for his country and then people who think he is rubbish may notice something different about him.

I'm sure that every professional, and possibly some amatuer, footballers aspire to play for their country at some stage in their footballing lives, but I've said it before, and I'll say it again.

I'd rather they never played for their country as long as they are Bolton Wanderers players.
