Evans rules out Bolton job
Caretaker boss disappointed by Megson sacking
Last updated: 31st December 2009
Evans: Not applying for job
I will not be applying for this job. I have no intention of being the manager of Bolton Wanderers. Chris Evans
Bolton caretaker boss Chris Evans has ruled himself out of the running for the manager's job on a permanent basis.
Former Wolves academy chief Evans and head coach Steve Wigley have been placed in temporary charge following the dismissal of Gary Megson on Wednesday.
The duo will take charge for the first time for Saturday's FA Cup third round tie with League Two side Lincoln at the Reebok Stadium.
But Evans, who was recruited as assistant manager by Megson two years ago, has no plans to throw his hat into the ring for a long-term stay.
"I will not be applying for this job. I have no intention of being the manager of Bolton Wanderers," said Evans.
"But equally I would like to feel I am professional enough to do the best possible job I can during the time given to me.
"Steve and I come from similar backgrounds and have similar ideas. We have work to do and will continue to do that as best we can."
Evans admitted he was shocked and upset to see Megson get the sack just hours after Tuesday night's 2-2 draw with Hull City.
Surprised
"I am surprised to be in this position. Gary called me yesterday with the news," he added.
"I am disappointed as well as he gave me an opportunity to come here. But the decision was made by people over and above us.
"The issues with regards to the fans does not help. But now is the time to look forward.
"I have a professional job to do. I am under contract and will do whatever job is asked of me to the best of my ability.
"The remit we have is that we act in the best interests of the club until a new manager comes in so we are well prepared for each game."

Re: Chris Evans won't take the job
Well at least it not being him is good news, I would like the same promise from Wigley.

Me too. Was just reading papers online and Peter Reid is linked in a couple; in one as caretaker manager till season's end.
Papers say that Coyle, Jewell and Hughes aren't interested, though I've not seen any turn it down on camera.
