now you see it, now you dont!

Read the below article about the gallas challenge, the ref claimed not to have seen it and then that he did see it...

but my question is this, even if he saw it on the pitch wh does that mean no further action will be taken? why does it immediately close any route to further action?

he obviously miss-saw the challenge or else he would have given at least a free kick, so the fact that he admits he saw it is irrelivent, unless it simply proves he saw it wrong!!!

ARTICLE

Bolton Wanderers are furious at what they believe was a change of heart by referee Alan Wiley over William Gallas' studs-up lunge on the Bolton Wanderers midfielder Mark Davies at the Emirates on Wednesday.
Sources at Bolton claim that Wiley told them in the aftermath of the game that the reason he had not punished Gallas was because he had not seen the incident. However, Wiley yesterday told the FA that he had indeed seen it, albeit only as two players "stretching" for the ball, and at the time he had not realised the severity of the challenge.

By acknowledging that he had witnessed it, Wiley closed off any possibility of retrospective action against Gallas. Bolton believe that was a different version of events to the one that the referee gave after the game to their manager Owen Coyle, who described the Gallas tackle as "akin to assault". They allege that on Wednesday night the referee said he had not seen the tackle, which meant that the FA could theoretically have taken action against Gallas.

Bolton are also unhappy at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for urging his team to keep playing after the Gallas tackle, when Davies lay stricken on the ground. Arsenal went up the pitch and scored through Cesc Fabregas to make it 2-2. They went on to win 4-2.
There is also a sense of grievance at Bolton that the general reaction of the Arsenal players and their manager contributed to the jeering that accompanied Davies as the player was taken from the pitch on a stretcher.
Davies will have further tests today. The damage to his right ankle is not thought to require

Five Gooners phoned me yesterday and all talked about the Gallas tackle. Two said that Bolton have kicked Arsenal black and blue over the years.
Another, who was sitting right in line with the tackle, thought, "Shit, that's a red card !"
A fourth asked, "Was it malicious or mistimed?"
I said, "If the score was 0-0 or 2-0 to Arsenal, I might have thought it was mistimed. But Gallas had just made a mistake, he'd just passed to Mark Davies."
Another friend was in no doubt : "He stepped on his ankle. He meant it, absolutely. He went to do him. He meant it."
Today's Sam Wallace piece is titled Bolton rage after Wiley backtrack over Gallas.
Don't get me wrong : I love William Gallas. He has been a tremendous player for Arsenal. I've said that from day one.

If he saw it, then it should have been a free kick and a booking for Gallas, for sure.
