What would a new manager do? Empty What would a new manager do?

What would a new manager do?

I dont know if I'm way off here or not but i sometimes get the impression that a new manager comes into the club and rather than evaluate the whole team on what he has in front of him he has some preconcived ideas based on what he has heard, read, seen in the media.

For example, would the new man com in and say, hang on a minute, i dont like this pump it up to davies thing, im going to go vaz te and klasnic up front, gardner left, riga right (for example) or will he feel like he has to live up to the reputations he has heard of already - ie davies is firt on the team sheet, he is the main man, all bolton fans love it when he plays?

i dont know if im expressing myself correctly?

i just mean, would a new manager come in and pick his own side right from scratch based entirely on what he thinks from a clean slate or do they generally feel some pressure from reputation?

my fear is that it will be the latter and the likes of mccann, davies and taylor will still be the players relied on...

i want to see a new approach...

ill stop going on now!

I guess it depends on the class of the manager.

Typical Tory, you'd only bring in a manager if he was middle class...

It's a difficult one to call, as it all depends on who the manager is.

If it's Curbs, then he will likely come in and have us playing some relatively dour stuff, and we will miraculously finish 10th in the Prem, regardless of performances or results.

If it's Dowie, we will get relegated.

If it's Tim, we will sign Kaka, Messi and Vidic in January and just scrape qualification for the Champions League.

If it's Sammy Lee then I will never visit the Reebok again.

With a couple of quick changes Harry Redknapp made a massive difference at Spurs.

It would be nice to get a manager who didn't chew gum.

But Tottenham had some very good players and he added about another £50m worth to it (although he did get rid of a couple). I'm not sure it's fair to compare us to Tottenham 'cos they've got a secret stash of money and no-one knows where it comes from. And they paid £5m for Redknapp in compo not to mention his wages will be three times that of Megson.

I doubt he'd pick 'his' team right from the off. I doubt he'd want to rock the boat too much as, considering that Megson has been given the boot, we'll have to be in a considerably worse position than we are now (gulp).

I assume that he'll have an idea, hopefully based on pervious managerial experience, of who our best players are. I imagine that those players will be; Kevin Davies; Jussi; Cahill; Taylor (perhaps). Whether you agree with that list or, it's your call but I imagine those are considered to be our best players. I'd certainly say the first three are our best players.

I think the problem is that Megson isn't that tactically astute and so he's sadly followed the mould set down by Allardyce of dour, route one, hoof it to Davies football but, notably, without the results. I'd hope that a new manager would have confidence in his own methods and system to apply those methods to our team, whether that would be in his first seeason or not is debatable.

I'd like to think that after this season to hoepfully pull us clear of the shit, he'd pick the players on merit and that would have given enough enough time to make his own analysis of our players. I doubt that analysis would involve removing Davies but you never know.

Regardless of the manager, I very much doubt we'd see a front two of Vaz Te and Klasnic any time soon. I hope not anyway!

Read the 'Internal Rumblings' thread Wakey. He served Mangler a Rollover Hotdog. The lad's doing fine!

I'd just like to see Vaz Te LEAVE!

I'd like to see Klasnic starting some games.

I'd agree that the first 1-3 games wouldn't see much change; maybe tinkering/tweaking here and there and composing a list of players to get rid of and players the new manager would like to bring in.

I saw Damned United last night and the memories came flooding back. Wouldn't it be nice if we could find someone in the same mould as Cloughie, who actually loved the job and the club and delivered just a fraction of the success that Derby had ?
